It’s Christmas in July, folks!
I recently wrote the liner notes for Retromedia’s Blu Ray release of Snowbeast, and I’d like to share the TV movie love with our listeners. Thanks to Mr. Fred Olen Ray, the god behind Retromedia, I’ve got an extra copy of Snowbeast that I’ll be raffling to anyone who participates in our contest, so keep reading for the rules and regulations (or listen to our mini-minisode):
We’re asking listeners to pair Snowbeast up with their other favorite TVM monster (ex. the Gargoyle or the Zuni Fetish Doll, etc.) and then write a short synopsis (1-2 paragraphs) about their monster mashup duels. You can just give us the story, but feel free to include a cast, or perhaps a director and screenwriter if you so choose. Be as creative as you want.
The only rule we’re applying to your synopsis is that you choose a monster from the classic era of the telefilm (1964-1999 roughly), and preferably from a network production as opposed to a cable TVM (although if you feel so passionate about it, do as you please).
And feel free to use a “human monster” if you think you can argue your point. Remember the creepy guy with the voice box in Night Terror? He’s all yours if you can get him in a good match up with Mr. Snowbeast!
Here’s an example I gave to Dan and Nate:
Snowbeast v. The Zuni Doll:
Karen Black’s friend, Karen Valentine inherits the Zuni doll and takes it in on a ski vacation with her and her boyfriend, played by Monte Markham. Markham is a recovering alcoholic and nobody believes him when he says the Zuni doll is alive (he’s detoxing, guys!). One night it chases him out of the resort and they run into Snowbeast, and the two fight to the death…
We’d love to hear from everyone, but please note that I can only send the Blu Ray through domestic shipping. Sorry, I can barely even afford those rates… But we’d love to hear from one and all. US citizens will get their name put in a hat, and in our next episode we’ll read out a few of our faves and pick our winner! Feel free to leave your story open-ended. If we read yours we can all discuss who wins the battle!
If you have an entry or a question, drop us a line at TVMayhemPodcast@gmail.com! We’ll record August 29th, so all entries must be received by midnight (PST) on August 28th.
I’m so excited!
